Knives.
There are a variety of knife holders in the market. Some are drawer based, others are a stand.
For a long time, I had the stand variety. The problem I found was that knife could stick out a bit exposing the blade which could be a bit dodgy. I wanted to find an alternative and also ideally find a way to display my knives since they are hand crafted with specialty handles made of exotic materials.
I found my solution at Japana. It is a strong stand with magnets that hold the knives in place. You simply lay the knife in place and to remove, hold on to the holder and pull. The only thing to watch for is to make sure your knives are not too long. In the picture that is mine, You can see I had to put the holder on a stand as one knife was a little too long. Service was fast and responsive and I thought reasonably priced. They also have a large selection of other items to choose from.
Since I eat steak alot, a good steak knife is important to me.
I was at a steak house in Chicago a number of years back and really like their steak knives. They are made in France and are excellent quality and are the at Bed Bath and Beyond. A set of 6 will set you back around 560 Euros so they are not cheap.
Over time, I lost a couple of them and also found they were hard to sharpen given their serated edge. So I was looking for a new set when I came around the company of Salter Fine Cutlery. They make high end knives that are all handmade in Hawaii by a family run business. The actual blades are again handmade in Japan. Their quality and service are amazing. Since they only do small batches at a time, you need to contact them and detail what you want. The knives in the picture are the ones they made for me. I couldn't be happier!
